Stopped using deprecated constants NETWORK_* (#5537)

* Rewrite:
- stopped using deprecated NETWORK_* constants, now Protocol::* should be used
- still left them intact for slow/lazy developers ...

* Removed deprecated NETWORK_* constants as per code reviewer's request.
